A teenager shouting Allahu Akbar has been shot dead by French police near Paris after allegedly beheading a school teacher with a knife in the street. The victim was said to have been a middle school history teacher who had enraged parents by displaying cartoons of the prophet Mohammed to pupils.
The French teacher who was beheaded by a suspected Islamist terrorist yesterday for showing his class cartoons lampooning the of Mohammed has today been identified as Samuel Paty.
A father of a 13-year-old pupil at the secondary school in middle-class Conflans-Sainte-Honorine told Reuters Mr. Paty had told any Muslim students to leave because the cartoon would likely cause offense. Muslims believe that any depiction of Mohammed is blasphemous.
